Phobias, or irrational fears, are often extremely difficult to live with, forcing the sufferer to avoid their fear and putting restrictions on the way they live their life. The phobic reaction can be frightening and traumatic and, because phobias are often misunderstood by others, they can be embarrassing and alienating.
Most phobias are 'learnt' behaviours, from parents or other influential adults, or are the result of a distressing experience which has created an involuntary reaction to the stimulus.
Because the response is automatic and happens at a subconscious level it cannot be consciously controlled. Instead, by addressing the subconscious, hypnotherapy can help change the way you see and feel about your fear and so remove the negative response – without trauma.
Hypnotherapy is extremely successful at helping to overcome phobias.
Treatment will involve NLP (neuro linguistic programming) which uses powerful visualisation techniques combined with hypnosis to firmly implant new ways of perceiving and responding to the stimulus.
The treatment will not involve you facing your fear.
Some of the most common phobias, all of which can be cured by hypnotherapy, are:
· spiders, birds, dogs, snakes
· flying
· the dentist
· needles
· heights
· open spaces, enclosed spaces, lifts
· driving, public transport
